Patient's Daughter
Navigating a loved-one's life-limiting illness can be so overwhelming. We were terrified when our mother became ill. It was all-consuming. We met with so many specialists who each described mom's situation in great detail. While they were helpful, we often felt like we were passed around between different doctors. When our family met Dr. Nachat, we were able to see the big picture. She got to know who our mother was outside of her life-limiting illnesses. She understood what made her tick and helped her to define what "quality of life" looked like to her. Then we got to sit down as a family to share our hopes intertwined with her own. This information helped us work together as a team with Dr. Nachat to formulate advanced care planning in a way that made sense for our family and optimized our mother's quality of life based on her specific goals. Over the years, we have been so grateful to have Dr. Nachat as an ally, advocate, and source of wisdom for our family. She is an expert and an incredibly kind and caring Person.
Patient
What does an individual do when they find themselves in the hospital again, overwhelmed by sickness and facing multiple unknowns? Although I received excellent care provided a multitude of by doctors, specialists, and nurses, I was often left wondering if anyone knew who I was beyond my massive chart. I am a wife, mother, abuela, pastor, teacher, and a person of prayer, purpose and faith. I needed someone to hear my voice and to help me not my illness. A dear doctor, who has become a dear friend, spent hours listening to who I was! Dr. Nachat listened and developed a plan that has not only helped me through the ups and downs of living with chronic illness, but I have also reclaimed some healthy ground I had lost.
Dr. Nachat’s medical expertise and interpersonal skills were more valuable than I can describe in our family’s greatest times of need. You could not have a better asset for yourself and your family.
Patient's Daughter
My dad had always begged to die a quick death. He never wanted to be a burden to his children. Unfortunately, he did not get his wish. His decline was slow, attacking his mind as much as his body. Over the course of several years, the questions got more complex, navigating specialists more confusing, and remembering that he had a strong voice in his care harder to hold onto. I was overwhelmed, confused, and terrified. Then I reached out to Dr. Nachat, she walked the entirety of his illness by my side.
Dr. Nachat was able to guide my brother and I in parsing often conflicting medical information. She ensured dad knew he was heard, and his wishes honored. As she synthesized the pieces that doctors threw at us, she used his wishes as a guidepost to help us all feel a sense of continuity of care. She was able to guide medication recommendations to minimize his cognitive side effects so he would be able to participate more actively with decision making - all the way until the final days. She gave me the compassion I needed and supported me when I needed to step back and practice self-care.
Because of Dr. Nachat, I can say that my dad's journey had dignity. She is a rarity in this medical world, able to hold the heart of a patient’s journey and ensure that comfort was truly honored.

I have worked with Dr. Nachat for the past several years and she has been a vital component to many of my patients' care. Her expertise and knowledge of pain and symptom management is complimented by her focus on the mind, body, and soul of everyone she cares for. Her whole patient approach is what is needed for complex patients with cancer and chronic illnesses. Dr. Nachat is the only physician I know skilled in complimentary medicine, emergency medicine and palliative medicine. She is the person I go to when I need expert consultation on medicine, complex pain and the latest changes in medical care. She provides gold standard of care for every patient she sees.

Dr. Arian Nachat is an exceptional pain and palliative care physician. She not only has the expertise to manage and treat the most complicated of patients, but she is also dedicated, passionate, ,and caring. She is a national leader in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), complex pain management, and non-pharmacological interventions for pain boosting her armamentairum above that of even a highly skilled pain/ palliative care physician. I would not only refer every one of my patients to her, when appropriate, but would ask her to treat my family members as well. She goes above and beyond for her patients and families and is highly qualified to treat them with the most up to date evidence-based care available.
Physician in Chief (Retired)
Kaiser Hospital Walnut Creek
Highest Kudos to Dr. Nachat. She brings a unique vantage point, both with personal experience in patient care across a broad spectrum and with her knowledge and application of eastern medicine techniques. The hospital care for palliative and oncology patients is both expensive and not fully effective. Dr. Nachat and her team were able to demonstable improve patient pain scores and satisfaction while reducing care costs. Their use of acupuncture and other non-western modalities was greeted with skepticism. Over a realtively short time, she was able to win support from nursing staff and physicians in several departments. This included oncologists, surgeons, and hospitalists. Dr. Nachat's published data attest to the program success. Implementing this program should be on the to-do list at every hospital.
Northern California
Dr. Nachat's deep compassion and respect for her patients' wants and needs serves as the foundation for mutual goal setting and treatment planning. She then uses evidence, the latest research, and her wealth of clinical experience to ensure effective treatment while adeptly navigating often difficult clinical situaltions.
As the quality leader in a large health system in Northern California, I had the priviledge of working directly with Dr. Nachat and her team to improve the lives of patients undergoing chemotherapy. Treatment augmentation based on evidence-based interventions prevented or greatly reduced what are often disabling side effects. This allowed our patients to comfortably attend family events, see friends, participate in religious services, and have fewer disruptions to their lives because of treatment side-effects.
I have the utmost respect and admiration the way Arian Nachat, MD practices medicine and provides care to every patient.
